dōTERRA Joins Industry Experts at 2023 International Conference on the Science of Botanicals

May 11, 2023

Recently, two dōTERRA product scientists joined other scientists and industry experts at the 21st annual International Conference on the Science of Botanicals (ICSB). The conference focused on current research topics in natural products and was hosted by the University of Mississippi’s National Center for Natural Products Research (NCNPR).

Becoming a respected voice in the scientific community
The dōTERRA mission hinges on discovering and developing the world’s highest quality essential oils and related natural wellness products. We accomplish this with a dedicated team of in-house scientists, highly accomplished advisors, and academic partners.

“dōTERRA is a pioneer in advancing essential oil science,” said Dr. Russell Osguthorpe, dōTERRA’s Chief Medical Officer. “However, our impact remains minimal unless we are also contributing to the overall industry conversation. That is why our partnership with the University of Mississippi’s National Center for Natural Products Research (NCNPR) and participation in conferences like ICSB are critical. As one of only a few private companies in attendance, dōTERRA proved that we are a respected voice in the industry’s scientific community.”

Joining the conversation
The hallmark of the ICSB conference is the tremendous opportunity for international exchange among presenters and attendees. dōTERRA scientists joined other leading researchers from 20 countries to review, discuss, and explore the confluence of current research topics. The conference agenda included speakers from:

  • Academia: 19
  • Government: 17
  • Industry: 26
  • Media: 4

“I enjoyed the opportunity of being one of two female scientists representing dōTERRA at this renowned scientific conference,” said Nicole Stevens, VP of Clinical Research. “It speaks highly of dōTERRA’s commitment to quality, both in products and in the science that supports them. dōTERRA has always been a strong supporter of women in STEM–I am proud and grateful to represent a company whose values I share, and whose products I love!”

Women in STEM
dōTERRA takes pride in our science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) teams who work tirelessly to certify the purity and quality of our products. We also take pride in the fact that over 100 of the members of those STEM teams are women.

“What I hope for women working in science is that they don’t feel afraid. Just go and do it,” said Cecile Bascoul, VP of Product Safety, and presenter at this year’s ICSB conference. “I hope that ‘women in science’ isn’t a distinct topic in the future. Women in science should not be a phenomenon or cool statistic. It should be the norm.”
