Jasmine Essential Oil: Sourcing the Best and Helping the Most
For centuries, the jasmine flower has been prized for its beauty and luxurious aroma. Historically, a multi-step extraction method separated the waxes, resins, and volatiles from the delicate petals resulting in a final product called an absolute. Jasmine absolute is used in a wide range of ways—from an ingredient in fine perfumes and skincare lines to a standalone product.
Given the nature of the COVID-19 pandemic, the fragrance industry has experienced decreased demand, leaving jasmine farmers and harvesters in a difficult situation. At the same time, essential oils and natural products have seen an increase in demand—putting doTERRA in a unique situation to help communities in need.
In the process of speaking with one of our key sourcing partners in Egypt last year, doTERRA learned that they had discovered a way to successfully extract the pure and natural essential oil of jasmine flowers through steam distillation. Recognizing an opportunity to offer a one-of-a-kind product for customers while also providing extra support to our sourcing partner during this difficult time, doTERRA obtained exclusive access to this Jasmine essential oil. Given that the harvest involves an extended network of farmers, pickers, dependent family relatives, and collecting intermediaries, this partnership supported nearly 50,000 people for an additional four months during the COVID-19 pandemic.
